Donations will support the efforts of the Salvation Army of East Stroudsburg and Children and Youth Services of Monroe County
MOUNT POCONO, PA – Children who have experienced violence or neglect often enter the foster care system with nothing but the clothes on their backs or carrying a few personal belongings in a plastic trash bag.
That’s why Mount Airy Casino Resort chose to donate hundreds of pieces of new luggage to provide children and teens in foster care with a suitcase, to make their transition and their circumstances just a little bit easier and more dignified.
In addition to Children and Youth Services of Monroe County, Mount Airy also donated a truckload of new suitcases to the Salvation Army of East Stroudsburg and its Transitional Housing Program, which provides a safe haven to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
“These organizations are the first and most important safety net for the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Lisa DeNaples, Mount Airy owner and managing trustee. “It’s our sincere privilege to support their inspiring missions to help children and families regain stability.”
Throughout the years, Mount Airy Casino Resort has donated more than a million dollars in cash grants, in-kind donations, merchandise, and community event sponsorships to charitable organizations that provide crucial services to the residents of Northeast Pennsylvania and the Poconos, including Meals on Wheels, Camp Papillon, Gracedale Nursing Home, Lehigh Valley Outreach, Monroe County Homeless Shelter and Metamorphosis Women’s Empowerment Initiative.
Last spring, Mount Airy donated $80,000 worth of brand-new merchandise to the Monroe County Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program; the Women’s Resource Center; Habitat for Humanity; Developmental Education Services; and Maternal and Family Health Services.
“Nonprofits in the Poconos and throughout Northeast Pennsylvania play a pivotal role in aiding and assisting the underserved in our communities,” said Ben Koff, Mount Airy COO and General Manager. “Serving as active community members is a key component of our company culture and we believe it’s critical to support those organizations on the frontlines that make a difference to so many.”
