Motown Heads to Mount Airy

Temptations lead singer Dennis Edwards to Perform March 13

Former lead singer of the Temptations Dennis Edwards and his Temptations Review will deliver a smooth night of Motown at Gypsies Lounge and Nightclub on March 13.

A talented musician and one of the most gifted singers of our time, Edwards was enlisted to replace David Ruffin as lead singer of The Temptations in 1968. He spent the next nine years in that role, his gritty leads fueling such songs as "Cloud Nine," "I Can't Get Next to You," "Ball of Confusion" and "Psychedelic Shack," as well as the groundbreaking singles "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" and "Masterpiece."

Two shows are scheduled for March 13 at 6 and 9 p.m. Tickets are $50 for the floor, $35 for the mezzanine level and can be purchased by calling 1-877-682-4791.

The Temptations were the first Motown act to earn a Grammy Award. Six Temptations – including Dennis Edwards – were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. During the span of his career, Edwards has also garnered 14 Gold Albums, five Grammy's and seven additional nominations for the Grammy Award.

Over the course of the entire band's decades-long career, the Temptations released four Billboard Hot 100 Number One Singles and 14 Billboard R&B Number One Singles. Their material has earned them a total of three Grammy Awards, while two more awards were awarded to Edwards and the additional songwriters and producers who crafted the 1972 hit "Papa Was a Rolling Stone."
